Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to Indian President Droupadi Murmu on India’s 77th Republic Day, calling for good-neighbourly ties between the two countries.
Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong shared Jinping’s message to President Murmu, saying that both countries should help each other succeed.

“It should be the right choice for China and India to be good-neighborly friends and partners that help each other succeed, and have the dragon and the elephant dance together,” Xi Jinping said, according to the Chinese Ambassador.
The ties between India and China have significantly improved over the last few months, particularly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit last month.
Modi and Jinping had met in September last year on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Tianjin. During the meeting, leaders welcomed the positive momentum and steady progress in bilateral relations since their last meeting in Kazan in October 2024.
They reaffirmed that the two countries were development partners and not rivals, and that their differences should not turn into disputes.
PM Modi highlighted that after disengagement on the border, an atmosphere of peace and stability has been created. The resumption of direct flights and border trade will likely boost economic cooperation between the two nations.

World leaders extend greetings to India on Republic Day
Besides Jinping, other world leaders, including UK King Charles III, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and businessman Bill Gates have also extended warm greetings to India on its 77th Republic Day.
In his message to President Murmu, King Charles III lauded the strong India-UK partnership. “I cherish the close bond that exists between the United Kingdom and India,” he stated.
“I am confident that our ties will continue to flourish in this very special seventy-fifth anniversary year of the Commonwealth – a fitting reminder of the enduring values and aspirations that unite us,” King Charles III added.
Bill Gates, Chair and Board Member of the Gates Foundation, said, “It’s an honour to send my greetings, as India celebrates its Republic Day. Republic Day is a moment to reflect on the extraordinary promise India made to itself in 1950 to build a nation where opportunity expands, knowledge empowers, and progress uplifts everyone.”
The US State Department also posted Rubio’s Republic Day message. He said, “The United States and India share a historic bond. From our close cooperation on defense, energy, critical minerals, and emerging technologies to our multi-layered engagement through the Quad, the US-India relationship delivers real results for our two countries and for the Indo-Pacific region.”
